I recently went to my local art gallery, and a local painter had done some really extraordinary work that reminded me of Georg Baselitz. After visiting it, I went home and got out my two books on his work. I first saw his paintings at the Centre Pompidou in Paris. A unique exhibition that has still stuck with me to this day. I’ve always been interested in painting and art, and living in Paris gave me the ability to learn and observe up close. I feel so lucky to have had this opportunity. However, the more artists I discovered, the more I realized just how often war influenced them. And what’s more, that conflict is documented not only by showing what is happening but also by how it impacts those witnessing it. Other examples I’ve seen in person are Francisco Goya and Miriam Cahn.
